FOQUS – Fondazione Quartieri Spagnoli is a project of
urban regeneration in Quartieri Spagnoli of Naples
The restoration of the Montecalvario Institute has allowed to provide public and private institutions with the space needed to develop their respective programs. FOQUS has been a source of new employment, entrepreneurship and self-employment focused in its majority on youth and women, by forming an economically productive community of cultural and creative industries, while also being a source of new training, education, child care programs and urban services dedicated to promote development and social mobility.

FOQUS has restored an abandoned building, by turning it into a productive and creative community through the fostering of education, training and guidance for kids and youth, notably contributing to positive change in the Spanish Quarter.
Founded in 2013, FOQUS today provides space for:
FOQUS can be partly compared to the regeneration experiences of the Bijlmermeer district of Amsterdam, the Quartier21 of Vienna, the Centquatre of Paris, all promoted by local public or governmental initiative, although they are different one from another in objective, scale size or preponderance of productive sectors.
FOQUS, as other European projects of this kind, is realized in one of the most emblematic and fragile areas of a metropolitan city; it experiments with new community welfare models and promotes social mobility, development, transformation.
Unlike its European counterparts, it is entirely promoted and produced on private initiative and with private resources. It builds a diversified and non monothematic cluster and it caters to the care of the person from the earliest years of life to adulthood, in training as in the services sector.

FOQUS, Neapolitan Renaissance on the Spanish Quarter.
The protagonists, initiatives and activities of the FOQUS project for the urban regeneration of the Spanish Quarter. The redemption of the Spanish Quarter, in the ancient center of Naples, through the words, faces and voices of the “inhabitants” of FOQUS, which is based in the former Montecalvario Institute, by the name of the most famous district of the famous neighborhoods.
A neighborhood characterized by lack of personal services, early school leaving and socio – cultural borderline conditions.
In this fabric operates the production community triggered by FOQUS, in the Spanish Quarter, for the Spanish Quarter and the entire city
of Naples.
